The big news is that the city was awarded an EPA grant of $300,000 for assessment. That means that the slowdown while awaiting a finalized sampling plan is done. Once the city council is informed, work can proceed to find out what is on the Little Lake property and what remediation must be done. The city is also pursuing other grants to help defray the cost of cleanup.

The city council will receive an update on the status of the property July 5. The meeting starts at 6:00, so if you are interested in hearing this, come to the meeting. We’ll send out information following the meeting. We don't yet know what time that will be on the agenda. We will be there to plug the dog park for the property. Having community members there is always helpful! The city has been pushing for a D street linear dog park for the past year. They have allocated $20,000 for fencing the south of 11th street portion for this. There is a neighborhood meeting at the D Street Community Center at 6:00 on July 14th to see if the local neighborhood is okay with a dog park being in that location. This is a small, narrow slice of grass that lacks adequate parking and accessibility. If approved, it would be a “residential” dog park, not a community dog park which is what we continue to push for.
